Akau tidak berani menyebut diriku sebagai orang baik, tapi di mata banyak orang, aku adalah orang seperti itu. Stabil, berpenghasilan cukup, sayang istri.

Aku pikir dalam masyarakat sekarang yang banyak godaan, mampu untuk tidak tergoda dengan itu semua sudah lebih dari cukup untuk disebut sebagai pria yang baik.

Istriku adalah cinta pertamaku. Kami berpacaran selama 3 tahun sebelum memutuskan untuk menikah. Kami saling pengertian sangat dalam sehingga hanya dengan saling memandang saja, sudah tahu apa yang dipikirkan masing-masing.

Aku sendiri yakin bahwa kehidupan pernikahan kami seperti ini, karena itu, bisa dikatakan bahwa kami menjalani perikahan yang bahagia.

Setelah menikah, istriku telah membuktikan dirinya sebagai wanita yang baik. Dia hampir menghentikan semua kegemaran dan kebiasaannya, serta segala hobi, demi memenuhi kewajiban dan tanggung jawab sebagai seorang istri.

Sebelum berangkat kerja di pagi hari, aku hanya tinggal duduk, sementara sarapan, perlengkapan dan baju kerja, sudah disiapkan oleh istri.

Saat pulang kerja, makan malam sudah siap di meja dan aku hanya tinggal makan saja. Semua pekerjaan rumah termasuk mencuci, menyapu dan mengepel juga sudah beres dikerjakan oleh istri.

Keadaan ini berlangsung cukup lama sehingga aku mulai merasa biasa dan berpikir bahwa memang seharusnya itu kewajiban seorang istri untuk suaminya.

Aku sama sekali tidak pernah melakukan pekerjaan apa pun di rumah, lambat laun, aku mulai merasa seperti raja, yang harus sudah disiapkan segala keperluannya di rumah.

Setelah kami punya anak pertama, tentu saja kesibukan istriku bertambah, dia tidak hanya mengurus rumah dan aku, tapi juga mengurus kebutuhan anak.

Aku sering melihatnya sibuk, namun aku tetap tidak sadar. Saat di rumah aku terkadang bermain dengan anak sebentar, dan hanya itu saja, tidak pernah membantu sedikitpun pekerjaan istri.

Orang luar memandang keluarga kami sebagai keluarga yang bahagia, suaminya pandai mencari uang, istrinya pandai mengurus rumah. Mereka tidak tahu bahwa sebetulnya saat itu, pekerjaan istriku sudah terlalu banyak.

Setelah beberapa tahun, akhirnya anak kedua kami lahir. Seorang gadis kecil yang cantik kini menjadi anggota baru keluarga kami, dan tentu saja, itu artinya adalah tugas tambahan bagi istriku.

Suatu hari saat aku sedang bermain dengan anak kedua kami, anak pertama kami menangis, jadi istri yang saat itu sedang menyetrika, meninggalkan setrikaannya dan bergegas mendekati anak yang pertama.

Ternyata dia lapar dan minta dibuatkan susu, istriku pun segera memasak air untuk menyeduh susu, sambil menenangkan anak pertama kami.

Tiba-tiba telepon genggamku berbunyi, jadi aku bergegas ke kamar untuk mengangkat telepon. Hanya sebentar saja, telepon itu berlangsung selama sekitar 5 menit dan aku segera kembali ke anak yang kedua lagi.

Aku pun sangat terkejut, anak keduaku sedang bergelantungan di tepi ranjang, ternyata saat aku meninggalkannya rupanya dia berusaha turun sendiri dari ranjang.

Aku melihat istri sedang membuat susu untuk anak pertama, aku pun memanggilnya dan langsung memarahinya.

“Bagaimana sih kamu sebagai ibu, anak sendiri tidak diurus, lihat! Anakmu hampir jatuh dari ranjang!”

Istriku meminta maaf sambil menangis, dan buru-buru menggendong anak kami, dan terus meminta maaf karena lalai.

Beberapa hari kemudian, di kantor sedang akan diadakan rapat besar para direksi, jadi para karyawan diperbolehkan pulang lebih awal. Maka aku pun segera pulang.

Setelah tiba di rumah, saya menyadari bahwa istriku sedang mandi, dan, yang membuat aku terkejut, dia mandi tanpa menutup pintu kamar mandi.

Aku benar-benar tidak habis pikir dan langsung memarahinya

“Kamu tidak punya sopan santun ya? Apa tidak malu kamu telanjang dilihat orang? Untung aku yang masuk ke rumah, bagaimana jika orang lain yang masuk? ”

Dia menjawab, “Sayang, ayo kesini, masuk ke kamar mandi bersama saya!”

Awalnya saya agak ragu dan bertanya-tanya dalam hati, tapi akhirnya aku masuk ke kamar mandi juga.

Nah, kamu lihat, dari sini kita bisa melihat jelas kedua anak kita, kalau aku menutup pintu kamar mandinya, lalu siapa yang akan mengawasi mereka.”

Bukan cuma itu, aku perhatikan istriku denga seksama ada beberapa bekas luka di tangannya dan bahwa betisnya juga mengalami varises, selain itu juga ada bagian tubuhnya yang memar.

Aku menanyakan bagaimana dia bisa mempunyai semua luka itu, dia menjelaskan bahwa semua itu terjadi saat dia melakukan pekerjaan rumah juga saat mengurus anak kami, tangannya melepuh terkena air panas untuk menyeduh susu, varisesnya terjadi karena dia mengangkat barang berat cukup lama…

Tepat saat itu, anak kedua kami menangis, tanpa berpakaian dan dengan hanya mengenakan handuk, istriku segera menghampiri anak kami, dia segera berusaha menenangkannya.

Ternyata anak kami mengompol, dan dia segera mengganti celananya, celana yang kotor itu ditaruh ke keranjang cucian, saat itu saya baru menyadari satu hal.

Biasanya saat pulang kerja di waktu biasa, semua cucian sudah selesai dicuci, kali ini saya melihat di tumpukan baju kotor itu, ada bajuku, bajunya, serta baju kotor kedua anak kami, itu adalah satu tumpukan baju kotor yang sangat banyak.

Aku baru menyadari bahwa selama ini, tanpa aku ketahui, ternyata istriku telah menanggung beban pekerjaan yang begitu banyak.

Tiba-tiba hatiku terasa sakit, aku merasa sedih sekaligus malu. Aku baru sadar, saat itu anak pertama kami baru berusia hampir 4 tahun, anak kedua kami hampir berusia 1 tahun.

Aku merasa bodoh dan bersalah, bagaimana bisa selama ini aku tidak tahu kalau pekerjaan istriku sebegitu banyak, dan bahwa mengurus dua anak yang masih kecil ini, sebegitu repot.

Aku memeluk istriku, aku menangis dan meminta maaf padanya.

Sejak hari itu setiap ada kesempatan aku pasti akan membantu pekerjaan istri, dan kini, bukan hanya istri, aku sendiri tidak menutup pintu kamar mandi saat mandi, supaya aku juga bisa terus mengawasi anak-anak kami.

Aku rasa, seharusnya memang seperti ini, sebagai suami istri, sudah sepantasnya saling membantu dan bekerja sama satu sama lain.

Tidak ada yang lebih tinggi atau yang lebih rendah di antara suami istri. Kehidupan suami istri yang bahagia, hanya bisa terwujud, jika kedua belah pihak mau saling memahami dan saling pengertian.
